Abstract

A case report of a chondroblastic osteosarcoma and a squamous cell carcinoma in situ arising within a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary is presented. Only four cases of osteosarcoma within a mature teratoma and a case of combined osteosarcoma and squa-mous cell carcinoma have been reported. No cases of osteosarco-ma and in situ squamous cell carcinoma were found in the English literature. Within a cystic partially disrupted ovarian tumour filled with hair and sebaceous material, a solid gritty fleshy brown nodule was found. The histological appearances were those of a mature cystic tera-toma with many components and a focus of in situ squamous cell carcinoma as well as a sarcomatous nodule consistent with a chon-droblastic osteosarcoma.
