Abstract

Very recently, advances in wireless sensor networks have enabled wireless energy transfer and charging technology to efficiently deliver energy to depleted sensor nodes in a typical wireless rechargeable sensor network (WRSN) environment. With this current technology, the charging process is carried out by a wireless charging vehicle (WCV) which assist in charging each sensor nodes in the network. There is always a big possibility that most sensors will have their energies depleted while the WCV is serving other sensor nodes in the network. In this work, we develop an efficient scheme that aim to extend the lifetime of the WRSN. An inspection algorithm is developed to visit and inspect sensor nodes in the network so as to determine the set of sensor nodes to charge in order to aid the efficient use of the WCV. The simulation experiment carried out reveals that our proposed scheme performs better when compared to other schemes in terms of the survival rate of sensor nodes in the network.
