Abstract

A machine vision method is proposed to characterize the physical features of the honed surface texture on the cylinder liner of internal combustion engines. According to the gray image information of the surface texture of the cylinder liner, the curvelet transform method is employed to extract the physical features of the multi-scale anisotropic surface topography image of the cylinder liner, and the partitioned iterated function system (PIFS) is constructed to calculate fractal dimension to describe the physical features of the surface texture of the cylinder liner. The proposed PIFS-based method is applied to the honed surface and dimple-textured surface of the cylinder liner, the effectiveness and the accuracy are verified by comparing with the other two methods.
