Abstract

Variation in the thickness and velocity of the weathering layer results in variation in the prestack traveltime for a given reflector and traveltime curves become nonhyperbolic, even for a flat horizon. This obviously will adversely affect our ability to image exploration targets and might even cause a false structural anomaly.
