Abstract
ABSTRACT Few studies delve into master’s counseling students’ research identity development in structured environments. This qualitative, single case exploratory study examines counseling master’s students’ research identity development within counseling research labs in one department. Using pattern identification, four themes emerged: motivation for joining labs and engaging in research, importance of faculty mentorship and support, increased research identity and ability after the research lab, and the intersection between research, professional, and personal identities. Implications for educators and supervisors are also discussed.
