Abstract
Abstract In a series of experiments in which Depotestosterone (cyclopentylpropionate) was used to induce modification of the right gonad and gonoduct in female chicks, an unusual left oviduct condition was discovered in one of the treated specimens. In our experiments fertile eggs which had been incubated for 5 to 7 days were treated with doses of 0.02, 0.05, or 0.10 c.c. of testosterone in oil. The oil and hormone mixture was injected into the air space of the egg. Approximately 400 embryos were treated with testosterone and autopsied just prior to or at hatching time. There was a slightly delayed development in these embryos and the female embryos exhibited delayed regression of the right oviducts. In the case being reported here, embryo #8599L was examined after 21 days of incubation. The left ovary was approximately 2.0 mm. wide and 7.0 mm. long. The left oviduct was bifurcated; the division occurring anteriorly…
