Abstract
This report describes a case of von Recklinghausen's disease in a 23-year-old female who had a pharyngeal neurofibroma, a right cerebellopontine-angle tumor, a left middlecranial-fossa tumor and widespread café-au-lait spots. She was admitted in May 1979 with the complaints of a pharyngeal mass and bilateral hearing loss. During the operation, this pharyngeal tumor appeared to have originated in the glossopharyngeal or vagus nerve. Neurofibroma in the parapharyngeal space is regarded as a rare occurrence.A review of the literature concerned with this case is presented with a brief discussion of the incidence of signs in von Recklinghausen's disease, the postoperative complications and its treatment.
