Abstract
A case of gastric anisakiasis in a 69-year-old man is presented. He had eaten assorted sashimi in a local Japanese restaurant 3 days before a scheduled esophagogastroduodenoscopy. A live round worm was noted in the stomach, with 1 end embedded in the gastric wall during endoscopic examination; it was retrieved with forceps (A, B). No symptom or sign was noted before or after the endoscopy. The parasite was identified as Anisakis simplex through its morphologic features (C) and polymerase chain reaction.
