Abstract

This thesis is a comprehensive review of the current empirical and theoretical literature on the status of religion and spirituality in counselor education. Specifically, literature related to the role of religion and spirituality in counseling outcomes is reviewed, in addition to both counselor educators and counseling students’ views on how religion and spirituality are infused in counselor training. The current state of religion and spirituality in counselor education is explored. Finally, the author provides recommendations for the implementation of religion and spirituality in regards to research, training, and practice.
