Abstract

The occupational history was studied for all cases of cancer of the nose and paranasal sinuses reported between 1970 and 1973 from central and southern Finland to the Finnish Cancer Registry. Information was available on 45 cases and they were compared to age- and sex-matched controls selected from among other than respiratory cancer patients reported to the Finnish Cancer Registry. There were no cases with history of exposure to nickel or chromium, and no occupational group was statistically significantly over-represented among cases. Among the histologically verified cases there were two cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma and one of these was a joiner. Leisure time knitting was statistically significantly more common among the cases.
