A calculation of the effect of sub-band structure on the thermopower of a quasi-one-dimensional wire

Abstract

A Boltzmann treatment is used to obtain the thermopower at low temperatures of a quasi-1D wire. The sub-band structure gives rise to large positive thermopowers for Fermi energies near sub-band minima. The thermopower structure is more pronounced than in 2D systems, and should remain observable up to temperatures of order 10K.
