Abstract

A novel broadband single-patch antenna is proposed for GSM/CDMA repeater and base stations operating at 1710–2170 MHz. By using a novel probe-fed meandered strip feed technique, a single-patch antenna with good impedance matching, low cross polarization and symmetrical broadside radiation pattern is obtained. Air substrate is used in the proposed antenna to achieve broader impedance bandwidth, higher gain, and lower cost. Furthermore, the HFSS 3-D EM simulator is used to simulate the antenna performance. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth (VSWR<1.5) of about 480 MHz (1700–2180 MHz), a cross polarization level of less than −20dB and a gain level of about 8 dBi or larger within the operating bandwidth.
