Abstract

A broadband high-gain planar array antenna is proposed for 60 GHz wireless communication applications. It consists of two layers to achieve a compact topology through a standard PCB fabrication process. The wideband substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) feeding network is placed in the bottom layer while the radiating patches are on the top layer. A novel feeding structure is proposed to widen the bandwidth in terms of impedance matching and gain. Measured results of the fabricated array show about 14.6% of reflection coefficient bandwidth (S11<;-10dB) in the frequency band 57~66 GHz. The gain fluctuates less than 1.5 dB within the same band. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results validates our design.
