Abstract

There is a considerable interest in the application of probability techniques in the quantitative evaluation of power system reliability. Probability methods are being used extensively in the area of static adequacy assessment; however, their application to power system security evaluation has not received the same degree of attention. In this paper, a framework for security evaluation of a composite power system is proposed. This framework incorporates both steady-state and transient state considerations in the reliability evaluation of a composite power system. The proposed security framework can be used in power system planning studies. The concepts presented in this paper are illustrated by application to a hypothetical test system.
