Abstract

The system design features of a high-speed broadband switching system, that exchanges digitized NTSC and HDTV signals at rates up to about 600 Mb/s and integrates end-to-end communication and video distribution services, are described. It is shown that the interactive service or the distribution service is selected by layer-three signaling of the I-interface, and video channels are switched under control of the higher layer of subscriber signaling. It is concluded that this system is suitable for a building block architecture with load-shared and function-shared control. >
