Abstract

Objective To investigate the 3 year-cumulative incidence of diabetes mellitus in a community in Shanghai and the analysis of related influential factors analysis. Methods The resident subjects were derived from a community-based diabetes prospective cohort(35-74 years old) in Pudong New Area. Two surveys on diabetes risk factors, physical examination, and the measurements of biochemical parameters were conducted in 2009 and 2012, respectively. A total of 798 participants with complete information and free of diabetes at baseline were included in this survey. Results The 3-year cumulative incidence of diabetes mellitus was 6.39%, that of impaired glucose regulation(IGR) was 12.59%, while the 3-year cumulative incidence from IGR to diabetes mellitus was 17.17%. The main factors influencing the incidence of diabetes mellitus were fasting plasma glucose at baseline(OR=2.882, 95%CI 1.559-5.327, P=0.001), 2 h plasma glucose at baseline(OR=1.259, 95%CI 1.023-1.550, P=0.03), and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol at baseline(OR=0.168, 95%CI 0.035-0.814, P=0.027). Conclusion The incidence of diabetes mellitus in this studied community is higher. The higher baseline glucose and(or) the lower baseline high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, the greater the risk of diabetes mellitus.
