Abstract

Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram-negative cocco-bacillus, one of the normal flora on human skin, and has become an important nosocomial pathogen in recent years. Its drug resistance is getting more and more severe. We found patients getting pan-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infection or colonization continuously recently. To stop the extension of the infection. Our infection control group started to investigate, and analyze the reason. We directly observated and recorded the date of 7 patients who were admitted to our hospital in July and August, 2005 to see whether the infection caused by pan-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii could be avoided by shortening their hospital stay? And the risk factors of getting pan-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infection or colonization. This study also found that pan-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii has become a common pathogen in our hospital. It is very difficult to eradicate pan-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii because of the character of the environment and the bacterium. The policy of the hospital in the future is the intervention of infection control of pan-drug resistant bacteria and antibiotics control as well. Besides, every medical staff should keep in mind the isolation procedure of infection control and washing hands before and after every medical procedure are the most important.
