Abstract

Rock deformation and subsidence in underground coal gasification (UCG) play a critical role in both formation of syngas and environmental performance. We discuss in this chapter methods used to describe and quantify rock deformation, techniques to measure rock deformation, and predict approaches and results of rock deformation research in UCG. The emphasis is made on specifics of rock deformation and subsidence in UCG as compared with conventional underground mining.
