Abstract

In recent years, the application of biomass ash in the production of concrete has been the subject of numerous investigations. Several studies have been carried out to apply this type of ash in the manufacturing of concrete as a supplementary cementing material, limestone filler, or replacing natural aggregates. Its use sometimes produces a significant reduction in the resistance obtained, and certain benefits of biomass ash have been demonstrated in specialized concretes. This chapter is focused on the properties of different biomass ash, from different origins, and the application possibilities in specialized concretes are listed and explained, such as lightened or self-compacting concretes, as well as those that contain geopolymers or activated alkaline materials.
