Abstract

Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is a secondary process used to increase the density of metal injection molding (MIM) components after sintering. MIM is ideal for HIP since MIM results in an as-sintered microstructure without connected pores. This chapter explains the HIP process, describes the benefit of HIP, and also defines the potential issues using HIP. Additionally, example HIP conditions are given for several MIM alloys.
