Abstract
In an age where information and communication technologies are being used in all areas of education, the question arises whether mobile phones and various digital tools can help in learning a foreign language. This study analyzes 8th and 9th grade German language lessons where a new vocabulary about nature was taught with and without the use of information and communication technologies. The aim of this study is to determine how students learn new vocabulary more effectively, using the latest technologies or learning words in the traditional way with the help of dictionaries and notebooks. Through the analysis of the lessons, it was found that in the short term, the vocabulary learned with the help of communication and technology is practically equal in quantity to the vocabulary learned without computers and mobile phones. However, in the long term, students remember better the new words learned with the help of printed dictionaries and notebooks/flashcards.
