Abstract
Ultrasound tomography systems utilize acoustic waves with a frequency between 18KHz and 20MHz and can be used to image industrial processes. They way in which the waves propagate through a system is dependent on the material properties of the system and any inhomogeneities and phase interfaces they encounter. This allows ultrasound tomography systems to image spatial variations in fluid temperatures and flow profiles in addition to characterizing multiphase flows and detecting discontinuities within the flows. This chapter has presented all of the theory required to understand the design, and operation of an ultrasound tomography system, and has reviewed the industrial applications of the technique, as well as the benefits of using ultrasound for a process tomography systems the limitations have been discussed, so the reader can have a clear understanding of the capabilities of such a system.
