Abstract

The introduction of stimuli-responsiveness in therapeutic systems facilitates/tunable release of the therapeutic(s) at the target site, improving their bioavailability and reducing the off target toxicity. The functionality of such drug delivery systems can further be enhanced by the incorporation of an imaging modality. This allows precise spatiotemporal focusing of the trigger as well as real-time imaging and control of the dose, while tracking the response to the therapy. This chapter discusses the emerging trends in different stimuli-responsive smart polymers with image-guidance capability along with their therapeutic applications and clinical prospects.
