Abstract

Most of the heterocyclic compounds are naturally occurring, and their applications are important to living systems. Alkaloid natural products possess O-heterocycles as molecular scaffolds. The formation of furans has been the objective of research for over a century, and a variety of well-developed traditional approaches are now accessible in the literature. Therefore, a lot of methodologies are developed for heteroatom–heteroatom bond formation. Previously, methods that not involve use of metal have been developed for nitrogen–nitrogen, nitrogen–oxygen, and nitrogen–sulfur bond formation, and among all of these, iodine-catalyzed reactions play an important role due to its oxidizing ability, eco-friendly nature, low cost, easy accessibility in solid form, and easy handling.
