Abstract

Contraceptive use among sexually-active adolescents is essential to decrease rates of unintended pregnancies in this population. Adolescents who think they might be infertile may be less likely to use contraception, either because they do not think that it is needed or to actually test their fertility. We sought to explore the prevalence and correlates of perceived infertility among a sample of African American adolescents and to examine the association between recent perceived infertility and contraceptive use at last sex.
