Abstract
Healthcare in the United States is rapidly evolving and intensive care unit (ICU) leaders must embrace changes to survive. Reimbursement models are changing. Education is challenged. The need for close collaboration between hospital administration strategic planners and ICU leadership is essential. To be effective, critical care leaders must a vision and a practical plan to achieve it. This chapter covers some of the broader aspects of critical care administration and education. Performance improvement strategies, burnout and workforce shortages are also discussed.
