Abstract

This chapter highlights the manufacturing processes used to fabricate shape memory products. Firstly, the mechanisms of superelasticity and shape memory effect via the martensite to austenite transformation are described. The mechanism of the transformation-induced fatigue in shape memory alloys (SMAs) is also discussed in the same section. Then, models of some basic deformation processes are described, in order to better comprehend the mechanisms taking place in the various manufacturing processes. Finally, the main processes employed in manufacturing of SMA products, namely casting, heat treatment, forming, and machining processes, are discussed.
