English in the North: The Vowels of Southcentral Alaska David Bowie David Bowie david bowie is professor of linguistics in the Department of English at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he serves as department chair. Along with his work on Western Englishes, he also conducts research in linguistic variation and change during the decades following emergent adulthood, as well as the ways individuals use linguistic variation to express religious identities. His teaching areas include general linguistics, historical linguistics, and sociolinguistics, and he has a strong interest in the development of best practices for online and distributed teaching of linguistics.
