Abstract

The influence of various factors on the protective and comfort performance of thermal protective clothing is critically reviewed. It has been identified that factors related to the properties and features of fiber (eg, linear density, cross section), yarn (eg, types, twist), fabric (eg, surface properties, structural properties), and garment (eg, fit, design, closures) mainly affect the thermal insulation characteristics of the clothing, and these characteristics primarily impact the protective and comfort performance of thermal protective clothing. This chapter provides a thorough knowledge of various factors that affect the performance of thermal protective clothing.
