Abstract
The single-bearing permanent magnet direct drive generator of the Zephyros wind turbine has proven reliable in the field and is considered a successful design that has led to weight and cost reduction of the generator. Recent trends suggest the future of wind turbines lies in offshore installations, and Zephyros’s generator was designed with these in mind. Much current research in the field of weight and cost optimization of wind turbines aims at putting more wind turbines into the overall energy mix.
