Abstract

Multilevel converters are well proven and used for medium and higher voltage levels, to regulate, to improve conversion efficiency, and to reduce harmonic content and electromagnetic interference. The main advantages of multilevel inverters in the renewable energy sector are their ability to connect to more than one DC source on the input side of the multilevel inverter, and to produce a sinusoidal waveform as an output. This results in reduction in the harmonic content of power conversion, low switching losses, and lower voltage stresses, in terms of dv/dt, on switches.
