Abstract
Prenatal exposure to environmental chemicals (eg, environmental tobacco smoke, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, phthalates, bisphenols) are associated with behavioral symptoms of ADHD, substance use disorders, and psychotic disorders. These symptoms often emerge across adolescence, and frequently co-occur, suggesting shared etiologic pathways. Prenatal chemical exposures are often correlated with each other and with social exposures, such as early life stress (ELS), that are also associated with elevated behavioral symptoms.
