Abstract
Despite the roll out of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and falling rates of new HIV infections among many groups in the US, PrEP uptake remains low and HIV incidence remains high for some groups, especially sexual minority and gender diverse (SMGD) adolescents and young adults (AYA). Parents and families are key stakeholders in AYAs sexual health, and most prior research on efforts to include them in HIV prevention predate the regulatory approval of PrEP for adolescents. We conducted a systematic review to identify best practices and gaps in the literature around HIV prevention for AYA in the US, with a focus on research inclusive of PrEP and/or family-related components.
