Abstract

In recent years, a new modality for treating cancer has emerged: tumor treating fields (TTFields). Tumor treating fields are electric fields in the frequency range of 100–500kHz that are delivered to the tumor via electrodes placed on the skin near the tumor. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a broad overview for students and researchers interested in getting involved in TTFields-related research. The chapter is intended primarily for people with a background in engineering and physics, and hence, technical details related to the biophysical effects of TTFields are explained in detail within the chapter. Throughout the chapter, we have tried to highlight open questions related to technology to encourage researchers to get involved in this exciting new field.
