Abstract

Positron emission tomography (PET), using 18F-labeled compounds, is a powerful tool for the diagnosis of various cancers, atherosclerotic lesions, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and other neurological disorders. 2-[18F]Fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose, the earliest FDA-approved [18F]-PET tracer, is widely used for monitoring glucose metabolism in cancers and brain. The FDA-approved PET imaging agents for monitoring amyloid beta levels in the brain include florbetaben, flutemetamol, and florbetapir. Fluciclovine is an 18F-PET tracer used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. This chapter outlines the recent progress in the synthesis of 18F-PET tracers, using the late-stage radiofluorinations, and their applications in the diagnosis of various diseases, including cancers and AD.
