Abstract

This chapter presents a review of the major issues of Japanese national accounts in the light of developments of the United Nations system of national accounts (SNA) review for the revision. It also presents a simplified and integrated system of national accounts for the revision of the SNA. In doing this, experiences of compiling a Japanese system of national accounts that have been accumulated will be duly reflected upon and incorporated in the design of the simplified and integrated system. The structure of an integrated system of national accounts consists of four types of accounts. They are (1) sector production accounts, which give summary statements on the balance between the aggregate demand and supply of goods and services, (2) income formation accounts by sector, which describe the distribution of GDP and the formation of incomes that result from the distribution, (3) income appropriation accounts by sector, which report the sources and uses of incomes by sector, and (4) capital formation and financing accounts by sector.
