Abstract
This chapter reviews developments in the preparation and characterization of membranes used for vapour separation. The attention has been focused on the membrane material, the intrinsic properties of which are responsible for the efficiency of the whole membrane separation process. Three important classes of membrane materials are highlighted: polymers, zeolites and mixed matrix materials. Advantages and limitations of each class of materials in fabrication of high-performance membranes are discussed. The future direction and perspective in research of membranes for vapour separation is also briefly outlined.
