Abstract
This chapter focuses on the field of conflict resolution and peace mediation. It describes the problems faced by United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU). It also presents an innovative initiative and an example of how the international community can meet one crucial challenges, which are youth employment and entrepreneurship. The EU needs to become aware of the following things shaping the current international scene. Firstly, the EU must adapt to an increasingly hostile environment at the UN and acknowledge the aggressive diplomacy used by some emerging powers and blocks of states. Secondly, the EU needs to recognize that a number of its former allies in the UN system, including many African and Islamic countries, have been drifting away from it during the last decade. Thirdly, the EU needs to realize that simply keeping the Europeans together is not enough.
