Abstract
Material failure involving adiabatic shear banding is encountered not only during impact and blast events but also during catastrophic failure of structures. This chapter concerns the different failure processes of metallic materials involving adiabatic shear banding. Available data along with ongoing research about the increase of the penetration performance for armour-piercing materials and the increase of the material integrity for shielding structures are detailed.
