Abstract

Exploiting new millimeter wave (mmWave) bands having much larger available spectrum bandwidths have been considered as a promising approach to highly boost the data throughput capacity in NR. In the same way the release 15 new radio (NR) had considered, new mmWave bands require the physical layer enhancement to overcome performance degradation due to phase noise (PN). In this paper, the release 17 NR physical layer evolution in 3GPP is summarized to support between 52.6 GHz and 71 GHz frequency band. In addition, the performance of CP-OFDM considering PN effect is evaluated with the release 17 physical layer parameters. It is shown that the subcarrier spacing is a key physical layer parameter to mitigate the PN distortion.
