Abstract

The triple-negative breast cancer phenotype is characterized by an aggressive clinical history with poor disease-free and overall survival and shows a high rate of metastasis. Matrix metalloproteinases are a family of zinc-dependent endoproteinases that degrade the extracellular matrix, and have been identified as prognostic markers and therapeutic targets for breast cancer patients. The effects of berberine chloride (BCl) on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) gene expression, cell invasion and cell migration were investigated in the MDA MB- 231 cell line.
