Abstract

Head‐Up Displays (HUD) in automobiles are becoming increasingly common place, however these displays offer a relatively basic HMI experience. With the advent of self driving vehicles, the need to provide confidence inspiring visual feedback to the driver and passengers in the car will be paramount. This will principally be achieved by augmenting reality, fusing data from the cars sensor platform in a clutter free way, to enable the occupants to understand that car is truly aware of it surroundings and any threats that may be present. The existing head up display solutions that utilise LED backlit LCDs will not be able to deliver the display experience that will be required. DAQRI is developing a revolutionary holographic display technology for the next generation of Augmented Reality Head Up Displays, offering a larger, brighter display, lower power consumption, and ultimately a true 3D multi depth experience. In this presentation, we will talk about the challenges of delivering augmented reality to the vehicle and why our holographic display technology is such a compelling solution for the future of head up display applications.
