Abstract

We have demonstrated a pixelated polarization sensing layer realized by the combination of wire grid polarizer (WGP), band pass filter (BPF), and patterned liquid crystal polymer (LCP) retarder. It offers multi‐directional polarization imaging capability thanks to LCP photo‐alignment process. This technology can be applied to interpret polarization data captured by an optical sensor to extract useful information. In this paper, we have shown the concept of integrating patterned LCP (function as retarder) on an ambient light sensor which can be placed under an OLED panel to recognize the ambient light intensity in order to adjust the brightness of the display.
