Outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) is one of the biggest trends in outpatient infectious diseases (ID) practice and facilitates efficient care and improves patient satisfaction. The expansion of OPAT has been facilitated by accountable care organizations and other developments in health insurance and reimbursement. A preponderance of ID clinicians discharge patients to OPAT.
