Abstract

The presence of cardiac problems in pregnant women is relatively common, particularly with the increasing incidence of advanced maternal age and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The majority of cardiac defects are mild, but some present a significant risk to the woman and fetus. In this chapter, we will discuss cardiac adaptations to pregnancy and the use of cardiovascular drugs, as well as management of maternal congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease (including artificial valves), cardiomyopathy, and coronary artery disease.
