Abstract
Benzodiazepines (BZDs) have been associated with falls and fractures in older adults because of side effects. Given a potential higher-fracture rate in children with anxiety disorders initiating BZD treatment, we examined in post hoc analyses whether the relative and absolute associations between BZD versus SSRI treatment and short-term fracture rates differed in boys and girls. We hypothesized the elevated absolute fracture risk in boys initiating BZD treatment given the higher baseline of physical activity and injury.
