The 4th Mathematics, Informatics, Science and Education International Conference was successfully held on October 3, 2020 at Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. This conference was organized by Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The 4th MISEIC was the first conference in the history of MISEIC which was completely conducted using a digital platform in line with the social distancing norms due to the COVID-19 breakout. The theme for the 4th MISEIC was “Advancing Research on Mathematics, Informatics, Science and Education for Building a Better Society”. Using the theme, the 4th MISEIC invited scientists, education experts, practitioners, and students through this scientific forum to share their ideas, research findings, and issues about theoretical and practical knowledge in Mathematics, Informatics, Science, and STEM education. Their shared ideas were expected to have important contributions for building “a better society”, such as solving problems caused by, but not limited to, the pandemic situations. This year, MISEIC was held in the form of An International Joint Conference on Science, Technology, Art, and Humanities. The joint conference merged five Universitas Negeri Surabaya-organized conferences into one major event which was held on 3rd to 4th of October 2020. The joint conference included the 4th MISEIC, the 3rd International Conference on Vocation Education and Electrical Engineering (ICVEE), the 4th International Conference on Education Innovation (ICEI), the 2nd International Conference on Research and Academic Community Services (ICRACOS), and the 1st International Conference on Cultural Studies and Applied Linguistics (ICCSAL). The first day was dedicated to the conferences which have scopes focused on Science and Technology, namely MISEIC, ICVEE, and ICRACOS, whereas the second day represented Art and Humanities-focused conferences. In this joint conference, each individual conference was represented by one keynote and one or more speakers from overseas universities or institutions. However, the joint conference was organized only for the meeting day. Practically, each supporting conference had its own brochure, website, and article management system. The modification from an individual conference into the joint conference was conducted because of reallocation of academic budget to COVID-19 aids. The joint conference was completely conducted online using Zoom as a platform. Similar to offline form, the online joint conference included plenary and roundtable sessions. In the plenary session, each keynote speaker delivered a talk directly on the Zoom within 30 minutes. This session was also broadcasted live via an official YouTube channel of Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Each talk was followed by live Question and Answer (Q&A) for 15 minutes. Participants were offered to deliver their questions to each keynote speaker using oral or written forms on the Zoom or via live chat on YouTube. After one hour break, the roundtable sessions were conducted and organized by each individual supporting conference. For MISEIC, these roundtable sessions were preceded by a 20-minute live talk on the Zoom from an invited speaker. This session invited particularly all presenters and participants of the 4th MISEIC. The live Q&A for this forum was held using oral and written forms on the Zoom and lasted for 10 minutes. At the end of the session, each MISEIC presenter was assigned to a particular roundtable discussion room based on the ID shown in the Zoom. The committee provided 10 roundtable discussion rooms to accommodate all MISEIC’s presenters. Each room consisted of one moderator, one IT technician, 8-9 presenters, and some participants. There were three sessions in each roundtable discussion room which lasted for 50 minutes for each session comprising of 25 minutes for presenters’ video presentations and 25 minutes for live Q&A via Zoom. Preceding to the conference day, each MISEIC’s presenter was required to submit a seven-minute video presentation to a link which was provided by the committee. The decision to use a video instead of a live presentation was taken in order to avoid delay during the presenters’ presentation due to internet connection problems.List of Technical Program Committee, Conference Overview, Images are available in this pdf.

It is our great honor and pleasure to introduce the Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Informatics, Engineering, Science, and Technology (INCITEST 2020). The event is valuable and meaningful since it brings together scientists, engineers, researchers, practitioners, students, and civil society organization representatives to nurture research networks between universities and industries. With its main theme on “Humanized Technology, the Digital Journey to Win Competition”, this event is expected to serve as a platform of gathering for anyone interested in exploring potential solutions and answering issues and challenges to enter the 5.0 society. Amid the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the uncertainty surrounding the end of this pandemic, there are several issues we should describe as follows:1. Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) as the organizer of INCITEST 2020 will hold the conference on 11th June 2020 in an online or virtual format. The organizing committee will manage the conference from our campus which is located in Bandung, West Java Province, Indonesia.2. In this correlation, we should adhere to the regulation of the government of West Java Province and the government of the Republic of Indonesia which currently is implementing Large-Scale Social Restrictions to reduce the risk of virus transmission. Therefore, the online conference is considered the best way we can do to serve our participants concerning the fact that people safety is second to none. In this condition, there is no specific date deemed safe to which we could postpone the conference until either worldwide travel or crowd-gathering is safe again. We have all put so much effort in preparing the papers, organizing the event, as well as conducting the review process, working on the program, and everything surrounding it that we feel very motivated to pull this through3. The conference is divided into two sessions: plenary and parallel sessions. In the plenary session, we will use zoom as the media. Besides, to assure the dissemination of the conference to all participants, we will also broadcast the plenary session live using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) connected to YouTube live streaming and IG TV. Moreover, we will use live chat on YouTube and Google forms for the discussion session.4. The plenary session will be chaired by one moderator who will not only be critically summarizing the keynote presentations but also handling participants’ enthusiasm in asking any possible questions. In doing so, the participants will be following the conference at their respective personal corners through YouTube live streaming and IG TV.5. The plenary session will be presented by our keynote speakers in online format (via Zoom) from each country such as Prof. Abdulkareem from Malaysia, Prof. Yuto Lim from Japan, and Irfan Dwi Sumitra, Ph.D. from Indonesia. Each keynote has 45 minutes duration including the discussion session.6. Following the success of INCITEST 2018 and 2019, the enthusiastic responses to the call-for-papers in the third INCITEST were increasing. More than 450 papers were submitted to the organizing committee from both local and foreign participants. A peer-review process has been conducted to all the articles based on their originality and quality, resulting in 347 accepted papers to be presented.7. Of 347 accepted papers, 216 of them will be presented via Zoom in the duration of 10 minutes for each paper. Additionally, 129 papers will be displayed in the poster session (the link of the posters will be available on the INCITEST website).8. The parallel session will be divided into 10 classes; each class will be participated by around 21 to 22 presenters. A parallel session chair will manage the presentation time and discussion session in each class. Each presenter should present their paper within 5 minutes via Zoom. 5 minutes after the presentation will be given to each of them for the discussion session. We hope that with the above arrangement, we can serve our participants in the best way we could. The conference’s success is also due to the hard work of all involved parties. Therefore, the organizing committee would like to express appreciation to all supporters, sponsors, and participants for a great contribution to the conference’s success. Many thanks go as well to all of the reviewers who helped us maintain the quality of manuscripts included in the Proceedings published by IOP. We also express our sincere thanks to the members of the organizing team for their hard work. Finally, our continuing success of this conference series can be one of indicator that we have through our right pathway to realign technology with the best interests of humanity. We hope this first time experience of the online conference in the 3rd INCITEST will bring fruitful outcomes as well as give the participants great experience in an online conference.Thank youBest Regards,Dr. Poni Sukaesih Kurniati, S.IP, M.Si.The Chief of the Conference

Are friends electric? The benefits and risks of human-robot relationships.
  • Dec 26, 2020

  • Tony J Prescott + 1 more

SummarySocial robots that can interact and communicate with people are growing in popularity for use at home and in customer-service, education, and healthcare settings. Although growing evidence suggests that co-operative and emotionally aligned social robots could benefit users across the lifespan, controversy continues about the ethical implications of these devices and their potential harms. In this perspective, we explore this balance between benefit and risk through the lens of human-robot relationships. We review the definitions and purposes of social robots, explore their philosophical and psychological status, and relate research on human-human and human-animal relationships to the emerging literature on human-robot relationships. Advocating a relational rather than essentialist view, we consider the balance of benefits and harms that can arise from different types of relationship with social robots and conclude by considering the role of researchers in understanding the ethical and societal impacts of social robotics.

This volume contains the papers presented at the Thirteenth International Conference on Motion and Vibration Control (MoViC), together with the Twelfth International Conference on Recent Advances in Structural Dynamics (RASD). MoViC is an event that started in Yokohama, Japan in 1992 and has been organised every two years alternating between Japan, USA and Europe. The eleven previous RASD conferences have been held every three years or so since 1980 primarily in Southampton, UK. The idea of joining the two conferences came quite naturally because of the common ground of the two conferences and the chances of cross-pollination between two otherwise separate research groups. This joint conference is devoted to theoretical, numerical and experimental developments in motion/vibration/structural dynamics, their control and application to all types of structures and dynamical systems. The conference reflects the state-of-the- art in these topics, and is an excellent opportunity to exchange scientific, technical and experimental ideas. The Conference Proceedings include over 250 papers by authors from over 20 countries, forty technical sessions and five plenary presentations. The five invited speakers are Professor Roger Goodall (Loughborough University, UK) presenting “Motion and vibration control for railway vehicles”, Professor Takeshi Mizuno (Saitama University, Japan) presenting “Recent advances in magnetic suspension technology”, Professor Kevin Murphy (University of Louisville, USA) presenting “Dynamics of Passive Balancing Rings for Rotating Systems”, Professor David Wagg (University of Sheffield, UK) presenting “Reducing vibrations in structures using structural control”, and Professor Kon-Well Wang (University of Michigan, USA) presenting “From Muscles to Plants - Nature-Inspired Adaptive Metastructures for Structural Dynamics Enhancement”.I would like to thank members of the Organising Committee for their help, over the last year or so, in shaping the conference and for their invaluable assistance in the paper review process. I would also like to thank the conference secretary, Glen Martin, without whom there would be no conference. Lastly, I would like to thank all delegates for supporting the conference.
