Abstract

In hot working processes the wear due to abrasion and adhesion has proved to be an important limiting factor in the service life of tools. In the present paper the wear resistance of different hardfacing deposits is studied. The laboratory wear tests were carried out using a wear testing machine allowing tests in hot working conditions. The results of the laboratory tests were then compared with the experience gained from industrial processes. On the basis of the results, the effects of different surfacing materials on the service life of hot-forming tools are discussed.
