Abstract

The damping force of the magnetic damper in this paper is based on Lorentz force by Fleming's left-hand rule. That is to say, the direction of the force is the opposite direction of the relative velocity between the conductor and the magnet. The magnetic damper we propose is composed of a conducting plate and a combined magnet that consists of a big and a small ring magnet. The small ring magnet is placed inside the big ring magnet with their magnetization vector opposite each other, and glued the plastic spacer between the magnets. We report the new magnetic damper and the reason why it has high magnetic damping performance.
