Abstract

This paper discusses a structural health monitoring methodology utilizing Set-membership Identification technique. Identification is conducted based on a continuous-time system which involves those parameters directly representing the motion characteristics of a structural system in question. The presented methodology can estimate the motion characteristics, evaluating the range of the natural frequencies and damping ratios with their fluctuations accounted for. The validity of the presented methodology is demonstrated by conducting computer simulations and scale-model experiments. Utilizing this methodology, an effective, quantitative assessment of a damaged structure can be expectedly developed.
